McQueen: Studio Anglesea

THE SPACE

Next door to our home, McQueen is a self-contained, open-plan studio with mid-century calm and modern comfort. It is private by design, well insulated, with the studio, balcony and small yard carefully arranged so that nobody is looking into anybody else's windows. We are nearby if needed, but you can happily disappear into your own little world.

McQueen sits on the first floor at the highest point in Anglesea, looking out across Anglesea in one direction and rolling bushland towards the sea in the other. The Anglesea Heath and Great Otway National Park are just across the road, close enough to make a walk feel like the obvious thing to do.

Inside, there is a quality bed, a well-equipped kitchen, a wood heater with wood supplied, and a few welcome touches to help you settle in. It is light-filled, considered and quietly comfortable. The sort of place that makes you exhale when you arrive.

Past guests have called it "a sanctuary" and "the perfect place to forget the world". We rather like that. Your private balcony and small yard are yours to enjoy slowly, whether you are reading in the sun, lingering over breakfast, or doing very little at all.

The beaches and town are a two-minute drive away, and Bells Beach is 12 minutes down the road. You can see kangaroos at the golf club a few minutes' walk away.

McQueen is also a fine base for the Surf Coast Walk, with nearby stretches of coastline, heathland and forest waiting just beyond the door. Mountain bike trails surround Anglesea.

If a road trip is on the agenda, the Anglesea to Lorne section of the Great Ocean Road is one of our favourite drives, winding through Aireys Inlet and past the Memorial Arch.

HOSTING STYLE

We are Fleur, Mike and the team behind Dufflebird Getaways. We have been hosting guests across regional Victoria for more than 20 years, and still enjoy helping people find the quieter corners of the places we love.

Before you arrive, we will send through our favourite local tips, from good coffee to restaurants and quiet beaches to walks worth waking up early for. If you need a recommendation, just ask. We are always happy to point you in the right direction.

GUEST ACCESS

The studio, private front balcony and small rear yard are entirely yours for the duration of your stay.

McQueen sits beside our home and above our spa and sauna building, but the spaces have been carefully designed to feel separate and private. We cannot see into the studio, and blinds ensure you cannot see up into our home. Everyone keeps their own view, which seems only fair. The studio is well insulated for temperature and sound.

We are close enough to help if you need us, but relaxed enough to leave you completely to it. We will never enter the studio without your invitation, except in an emergency.
