We are so proud of this place. A one of a kind creation built with so much love and intention. It is a privilege to be its keepers.
A home... a loft...a cabin ...that sits so gently on the land you almost forget it's there. Five acres. No neighbours. A Japanese-inspired outdoor bathhouse. Duck walks. A sawtooth roofline with light that pours in from every angle. Paddock views that make you stop and breathe.
But the story of Liptrap Loft starts long before us, and long before the first guest arrived.
Jim Commadeur, the original owner, the brains and the creativity behind it all, took his time finding the right piece of land. He designed it, sourced the materials, mostly salvaged, and built it slowly with his own hands. Recycled timber, old metal school windows, found materials, a cattle trough. Every detail chosen with intention. His first substantial project.
When Jim sold it to us in 2005 it was with the heaviest of hearts. He had built something truly special and he knew it. He sold it to pursue his career in architecture, but not before telling us he felt both he and the property were ready for a new chapter. It had been his very private oasis. And he thought it was ready for people.
And people it has seen.
Twenty years of couples needing to exhale. Families wanting something real. Solo travellers who just needed to be somewhere quiet and beautiful for a few days. People who arrived tired and left restored. People who came once and kept coming back.
Of all our properties, Liptrap seems to attract the most wonderful, kind humans. People who care for it while they're here just as Jim hoped they would.
Many bring their dogs, which here we genuinely welcome. It's an extra level of risk, an extra level of things that could go wrong. But it almost never does. Pet owners seem even more grateful to find somewhere special that also opens its door to their beloved family members.
There's a reciprocity to it that we've never stopped noticing.
We think Jim, now a very successful and much celebrated architect, would be happy. We have looked after it the best we can, supported by the most amazing dream team who help us care for it with the same love it was built with.
